Amazon.co.uk Anyone familiar with cultish comedy series Flight of the Conchords will be aware of the wonderful songs that the hapless New Zealand duo Bret and Jemaine concoct for each episode. Tackling all genres, from hip hop and soul to glam rock, the duo create highly original and well-produced tracks that typically satirise the very genre they?re imitating. This album collects together many of the show?s best musical moments, many of them subtly revamped. "Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros" and "Boom" illustrate the pair?s hilarious 'rap' skills. "Think About It" parodies socially minded soul visionaries such as Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield, "Bowie" satirises the 70s icon (especially his prodigious drug use), while "Inner City Pressure" mimics the Pet Shop Boys. Two of the most memorable songs from the series--"The Prince of Parties" and "The Most Beautiful Girl (In the Room)"--are also both present, making this the definitive FOTC compilation. The humour ranges from offbeat to downright daft, but there's nothing laughable about the production, which is mostly first class. It's true they could have given us a few new songs, but then how many comedy albums can you repeatedly rewind and find yourself not only laughing, but dancing too?--Paul Sullivan
Product Description This acclaimed Kiwi novelty band follow the release of their six-track Grammy Award-winning CD EP "The Distant Future" with their full-length debut. Features fully fleshed-out and professionally recorded versions of the duo's concerts and TV favorites. Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement's trademark acoustic guitars lead the blitz, backed by a diverse array of instrumentation and production technique. If amazing, delightful, and hilarious is your idea of funny, then prepare for undisappointment. These fifteen songs pay homage to Pet Shop Boys, censorship, Marvin Gaye, sexism, Shabba Ranks, and backhanded compliments.

This is the Best CD I have purchased in years!!!!!!! July 4, 2008 T. Roth I have enjoyed hte Flight of the Conchords for a while now, but being able to hear all their great songs in your car is the best. Every song on this CD is FANTASTIC. I can't stop talking about it to friends. I have already purchased 4 of these CDs for gifts. If you are having a hard day, just pop this cd in your cd player and get ready to laugh your head off. The Amphibian
Nice Representation Of FOTC July 2, 2008 Space For The Poppa (ByTheShore, NJ USA) What can you say - if you're a fan, you'll "get it."
The show is great, so when my son saw this, we grabbed it. An absolute riot. It does lose a little something when you can't see them singing these songs with a serious, deadpan delivery. But, my imagination is pretty good. Everytime I hear "Bowie" the Bowie dream sequences pops into my head. I crack up.
Watch the show - buy the album.
Love it! June 25, 2008 Mama of One (Missouri, USA) I first discovered FOC through a Paste Magazine sampler cd. Even then, the first time I heard Ladies of the World I thought "Eh..." and turned it before it even Got to the funny part, because I didn't realize it was meant to be a funny song - I thought it was just another typical r&b song. I only realized my error when my sister, who gets the same magazine, saw my little sticky note on the cover with a (-) next to the number that song went with, and said "I can't believe you don't like that song!" She started telling me about the song, and I realized I had no idea what she was talking about, and it sounded hilarious! I bought this cd 2 days later. I've had the cd about 2 weeks now, and I am still loving it! I do wish that Jenny was included, but I'm hopeful that another cd will be released, which I will happily buy. Also, anyone who hasn't seen the live stand up from hbo's One Night Stand, it's a must see..I love the whole freestyling bit that they do during Think About It..cracks me up every time. Too bad HBO hasn't realized what a gem they have in that performance, I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it were for sale.
Joke gets old after awhile... June 23, 2008 M. Manzella (North Riverside, Il United States) At first listen, this sounds original, fresh and funny. But by the 6th track I was like "okay, I get it, now what?" Unfortunately the tired act just continued throughout the album. Never saw the show or whatever so perhaps I'm missing something but I didn't really like it all too much. But I can appreciate their creativity.
Extremely well done - smiled all along June 19, 2008 R. Soucy (CT) This translated from the show very well to a CD. Something was lost when Tenacious D made their album, the two man acoustic fury was missing. The songs in Flight of the Conchords were almost album ready, so hearing them on the album is not a big leap. In fact, listening to the album lets you hear how clever and talented these guys really are. And as a music album, it's really well produced and composed. You do need to see the show first to understand the songs. One downside, one song is missing: "Brown paper, white paper, sticking together with the tape, the tape of love!" I like that one. Oh, also, "I'm not crying" is missing, but that's on the Distant Future.
