It draws me into worship February 6, 2008 Leigh Anne Ainsworth I absolutely love this CD. I heard the music on PBS and then ordered it after Christmas. I have had it playing in my car ever since. To me it is not as much a Christmas CD as a worship experience. When I put it on it draws me before the very throne of God in worship. It is a celebration of Christ!
wonderful Christmas present January 4, 2008 Maryann H. Donohue I only listened to the samples of each song on this cd because I bought it for a Christmas present. I intend to buy one for myself also. It was a beautiful blend of traditional and new music. Tim Janis's arrangements are wonderful.
Your Chance to Hear Christmas Classics First! Before Everyone Else Jumps on Board!!! July 16, 2007 J. Dorman (Walla Walla, WA USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I cannot say enough about this CD. First of all it is kind of hard to find. If you haven't stumbled upon it through Janis's other work you might not know its here. Once word is out though, it won't take long to spread through your friends Christmas collection. I actually heard these songs for the first time on a PBS Christmas Special that featured these Tim Janis songs and then paired them with a traditional Christmas carol that complimented and in some cases inspired them. I have always been resistant to allowing anything other than the "traditional" Christmas songs into my CD player and I was awe-struck at the natural "classic" sound that these songs have. It as if Janis has captured the mood that Perry Como, Bing Crosby, and other classic singers could evoke with their own "home for Christmas" feeling. These songs seem to use the grand sound of an orchestra to focus the "story telling" vocals on to one indiviual. Unfortunatly I could never find the name of the singer in either the program or the song listing, but the woman singing vocals on "A King is Born" and "Worthy of All Praise" among others is my absolute favorite. She has a wonderfully talented vocal range and I think "Worthy of All Praise" is worth the purchase price alone. I still tear up when I hear it for the first time each new Christmas Season. Her voice in this song makes me remember that we are not celebrating the season of Christmas but that from that day forward all our hope rests in that little child. I think my favorite thing about this CD is when you get your friends or family to listen to it for the first time you get to watch them fall in love with the sound of it in their homes. I have reviewed several things here on Amazon and I can definatly say this is the one I feel most strongly about! Listen to the music sampler and then tell me what you think!

A Different Release By Tim Janis November 18, 2006 Timothy Kearney (Hull, MA United States) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
Tim Janis has a distinct sound. His music often begins with a simple tin flute then crescendos into a rich lush orchestral sound, beautifully capturing the natural landscapes he tries to set to music. As much as I enjoy Janis, he's already released other Christmas collections, and his arrangements are somewhat similar in his previous releases. So I did wonder if this collection would be more of the same. It's not. This collection is a departure for Janis. While we still have the beautiful arrangements Janis is known for, this collection also has vocals. The musical selections are also somewhat different for Janis. Though the title is THE AMERICAN CHRISTMAS CAROL, many of the tracks are not Christmas music per se. Many of the selections are contemporary Christian worship hymns.
Now some fans of contemporary Christian worship music may wonder if an orchestra such as the ensemble led by Janis would have the sound usually associated with these songs. Usually the music is backed by amplified guitars and keyboards, hardly Tim Janis fare. Janis fans may also wonder if this is the Tim Janis they know and love. Well, it works and in the end, it does remind listeners of the religious basis of the holiday, the birth of Christ, The combination of the Christmas music and music used in worship services through the year makes Christmas moire than just a once a year holiday, but rather the celebration of something central to the Christian faith.
As I was listening to this CD, I was reminded of a John Michael Talbot CD which combines traditional Christmas music and includes some traditional Catholic hymns sung at liturgies throughout the year. Talbot's CD tells a story as does this collection, and it's certainly a reminder of the true meaning of Christmas.
