Product Description
Every avid knitter has faced this dilemma: deep into a project at midnight, just trying to finish one more row, and, then . . . oh no, a dropped stitch three rows back! Help! If only there was a 24-hour hotline to answer every question a knitter might encounter. Well, now there is, with The Knitting Answer Book . The expert authors, Margaret Radcliffe and Edie Eckman, leave no question unanswered, no quandry unaddressed. Each book contains detailed, illustrated answers to literally hundreds of questions, from the common to the more unusual:

• Are certain needles better for certain yarns?
• What if I dropped a stitch several rows back?
• Why do my edges tend to curl up?
• Can you use a different weight yarn than the pattern calls for?
• What can I do to keep my yarns from tangling up?
• Oops, I see my ribbing is way too tight. Now what?

Covering the whole range of situations a beginner is likely to face, along with the problems that may arise for those working more advanced patterns, this Answer Book will help knitters and crocheters of all levels. Each book is packaged in a small, take-along trim size, in a friendly-to-use Q&A format, and belongs in the bag of every knitter. Available 24/7, The Knitting Answer Book is always open, ready for yarn lovers to browse and consult to their heart’s content.

2 out of 5 stars NOT PRACTICAL   November 23, 2008
Judith S. Condliffe (Maryland)

I bought this book and what a mistake! I gave it 2 stars, but really would like to give it none. The only reason I gave it 2 was because a lot of people (given the previous reviews) seem to find it useful. The most useful thing I have learned from this book is to never buy a knitting book without using it first (from the library or a friend). Take a technique you would like to learn and see if the book describes it in a way you can understand. VOGUE KNITTING IS FAIRLY GOOD, but for a large reference, the best I have found so far is THE ULTIMATE KNITTERS BIBLE. The pictures are large and I can actually go from the book to utilizing the instructions in a real project. Each time I have a question I look at all of my reference books. I have never found The Knitting Answer Book understandable. P.S. I have a graduate degree and don't consider myself to be stupid.

3 out of 5 stars Good Content Mostly - Index Difficult!   November 13, 2008
C. Rees-Johnson
Most of what is contained in this book is very useful, but the index is non-intuitive and I find it very hard to find what I'm looking for when I'm looking up something specific. The book's content is organized in a way that does make sense overall, but the index is missing lots of key words to match up to sections that one might try to find. I find it great to browse through when I'm looking for nothing in particular, but when I reach a point where I need to figure out something in a knitting pattern or technique . .well more often than not, I can't find it in the index, but DO eventually find it in the book. I've actually resorted to writing in my own notes in the index to help me remember where to find things I might look up more than once.

5 out of 5 stars The best quick answer book EVER   November 1, 2008
Angus Maguk (San Diego, Ca United States)
This book is awesome, it has basic - medium info on everything, I can't tell you how many times I'll forget just how to do something small that I'm RIGHT in the middle of and I can just flip and find the answer in this book and continue. The instructions are easy to understand and follow and the size of the book makes it PERFECT to fit in a bag already stuffed with knitting stuff! This is the must have book for anyone who knits.

4 out of 5 stars Handy content, but heavy little thing   October 13, 2008
Book Fan (California)
This book is quite handy to keep in your knitting bag. It is a quite decent reference about knitting technique, and I do refer to it when I am home. (
It has no knitting stitch patterns in it however.) It does have an awkward approach of requiring each piece of info to be the answer to a question, but it really covers many technique questions quite well, and I am happy to use it as a references when it is near.

My biggest complaint about it is that it is quite heavy, even though it is small. They have made the cover out of some sort of heavy plastic, and the pages are thick which adds to the book's size/weight. I often leave it out of my knitting bag simply due to the weight, which contradicts the idea of a small knitting reference. By chance, I encounterd the French translation of this book, and it is sensibly made it out of much lighter weight materials and thinner paper. (Too bad my ability to read about knitting in French is non-existent.)

READING MERRY WIDOW (SUMMERFIELD, FL USA)
The Knitting Answer Book: Solutions to Every Problem You'll Ever Face; Answers to Every Question You'll Ever Ask I love this book. I am a long time knitter who needs good directions and don't always get them. Hopefully, this book will fill the need to help me interpret some of the questionable directions I have found in pattens and make knitting a more enjoyable and productive hobby for me.
