I live in a dying old town (once the home of Nash automobile), and have seen the stores--Woolworth's, Kresge's, Penney's--as well as the theaters and all the local merchants--replaced by pawn shops, antique stores, ephemeral restaurants. All that's left is Walgreen's, which somehow continues to escape central headquarters' aggressive renovation initiatives. I do my best to ensure it stays in business, but pajamas are an item they don't carry.
All of this is my excuse for indulging in a pricier pair of PJs than is my want, and for making it a two-chapter episode. Amazon appears not to offer tops and bottoms as part of the same package. Only after ordering this top did it become apparent that the top is all you get--unless you search for and order separately "Calvin Klein men's pajama bottoms." Is this the height of self-indulgence, or the harbinger of things to come during inflationary times? Rather than doubling the price of socks, will Sears and Walmart simply begin charging by the sock? (I notice that the Calvin Klein bottoms are more expensive than the tops. Since my left foot is slightly larger than my right, will I pay a premium for that foot? I protest! I'll order two right socks.)
As for the pajamas, they're pretty good. The color doesn't "bleed" on the sheets, even before you wash the sleepwear. The maker's name had better have plenty of cachet, because it's prominently displayed on both top and bottom pieces. Finally, if you've ever been frustrated by rapidly deteriorating elastic bands, this one is complemented by an easy-tie string! No answering the door and regretting your haste.
They run large. (I'm hoping they shrink like all the others, but maybe best not to count on it.)
